Not a cartoon character, nor a Canadian Techno DJ: Chris Reed aka Plastician (formerly known as Plasticman) makes dutty, dutty beats. Playing and producing music that bridges the Grime/Dubstep divide for several years, his show on Rinse FM always showcases the best music coming out of both scenes. Similarly, he has always been as comfortable making Dubstep cuts as he has been producing for artists such as Lethal B, Skepta, JME, Wiley and many more. Invited to play at the RBMA Info Session after-party, he turned up with JME plus Skepta and together they thoroughly blew a hole in the roof of Cordy House. Recorded exclusively for Red Bull Music Academy Radio, this one hour set gets a little rowdy so it’s best listened to loud and late!

Red Bull Music Academy: Mala

In February 2010, the twelfth Red Bull Music Academy is touching down in London, and to celebrate the opening of the application phase, Red Bull Music Academy Radio launches an UK Inside Out show which will take us deep into the beating heart of some of the UK’s great musical cities. The first episode of Inside Out UK ‘London Belongs To Me’ is a journey through the UK’s hallowed capital with dubstep pioneer and Digital Mystik Mala leading di way - from the South London home he grew up in to the record shops of his youth, via the mastering studios where some of the most influential dubstep plates have been cut. Along the way we meet his oldest friend and musical partner Coki and former Academy participant and collaborator Andreya Triana.

“Starting out from Rotterdam, with releases on Marcus Intalex’ Revolve:r, Play Music and Bassbin, Martyn has been carving out his own little niche of the musical universe. While his drum’n’bass roots always shine through, his recent deep dubstep tracks have always been infused with a love for house music and warm technosoul. Now based in Washington DC, he still runs his 3024 label (named after Rotterdam’s postcode) along with longtime friend and graphic designer Erosie and continues to produce music and create DJ sets that are more concerned with creating a feeling than fulfilling genre expectations. A true innovator.”

RedBull Music Academy Radio : Scuba Live @ Eurosonic

One of the key figures in bringing the sounds of techno and dubstep together and, along they way, bringing dubstep to audiences around the world, Paul Rose aka Scuba is one of the pivotal figures in the triple B axis of Bristol, Berlin and bass - running Hotflush Records in Bristol, running the Sub:Stance club night at Berlins Berghain club and bringing plenty of bass in either case. Along the way he’s finding time to produce some ground shaking tracks and take them places around the world. Here’s a heavyweight set he played on the RBMA Radio stage at Eurosonic Noorderslag festival in 2010 - you might want to get some decent subwoofers before you listen in.
